Shakespeare in Love: Passion, Tears, and Paradise in Elizabethan Art
The Festival Concert Week comes to a glorious conclusion with the BEMF début of Boreas Quartett Bremen alongside recorder virtuoso Han Tol. Boreas, the god of the north wind, gave the recorder quartet its name: wind, air, and breath cause the recorders to resound. Performing on their fourteen-part Renaissance consort, the musicians of the Boreas Quartett have prepared a beautiful program exploring the many stages of love in William Shakespeare’s works. Joined by their former teacher, the legendary Han Tol, these exceptional artists perform vivid masterpieces by Taverner, Tye, Holborne, Dowland, Simpson, and others, interspersed with readings of Shakespeare’s timeless sonnets and soliloquies.
