Dreaming Jupiter: Virtuosity and expression in the French and English Baroque
Italian gamba virtuoso Vittorio Ghielmi has gained prominence around the world for the intensity and versatility of his playing. He and Israeli harpsichordist Shalev ad-El make their June Festival débuts in an arresting program of Baroque masterpieces full of expressive depth and imagination. In this not-to-be-missed performance, captivating selections for viola da gamba and harpsichord—by Christopher Simpson, Marin Marais, Jacques Duphly, and Antoine Forqueray—paint evocative scenes to illuminate the dreams of the soul, both human and divine, in vividly rendered portraits of striking virtuosity.
