The Boston Early Music Festival—a 27-year old, non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and presentation of Early Music, with offices in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA (www.bemf.org)—is seeking an energetic and highly motivated professional to work in conjunction with the BEMF Executive Director and Staff to implement various marketing and publicity initiatives.  The ideal candidate would have 3 to 5 years of relevant marketing and publicity experience, highly-developed interpersonal skills, organizational and managerial expertise, computer literacy, excellent writing skills, and a dedication to the performing arts and early music.  The position requires a 40 hour per week commitment; salary commensurate with experience.  Applications should be sent to: kathy@bemf.org.

In conjunction with the BEMF Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and publicity would:

  • Write and disseminate press releases (printed and digital) for annual concert series in Boston, MA and New York, NY, biennial festivals, CDs, and other notable news and events, contacting artists and managers for pertinent information when necessary;
  • Maintain updated press and colleague organization contact lists, follow up with major newspapers, magazines, and music writers to secure preview and review coverage of BEMF events, and coordinate press tickets and press packages at events;
  • Develop a comprehensive marketing campaign for the Boston Early Music Festival and its assorted events and projects, to include booking, writing copy for, and overseeing the graphic design of all brochures, postcards, posters, email announcements, and print and radio advertisements for annual concert series, biennial festivals, CDs, and other events;
  • Research, launch, and oversee monthly E-Newsletter campaign;
  • Write content for and oversee design of and updates to the BEMF website;
  • Maintain image library and catalogue of all newspaper and magazine articles and reviews for all BEMF events and projects;
  • Promote annual concerts and biennial festival events through “grass-roots” efforts (i.e. supplying brochures, posters, and postcards to local music schools, libraries, churches, and other concert performances, updating various web calendars with concert information, submitting concert info to relevant list-servs, trading web links, “info brochure campaign,” etc.); and
  • Strengthen current audience and cultivate new audiences through innovative audience development initiatives.
