Baroque Opera Recording Fund

The Baroque Opera Recording Fund provides long-term sustainability for BEMF’s GRAMMY-winning series of recordings that preserve our spectacular productions. BEMF has a distinguished international reputation in the field of opera for groundbreaking work reviving little-known masterpieces of the 17th and early 18th centuries as the centerpieces for its biennial Festivals. The BEMF Baroque Opera Project’s initiative to record all of our past and future operatic centerpieces not only makes these world-class performances available to a large and diverse opera audience worldwide, it also fills important gaps in the current opera discography.

This commitment to preservation has attracted international recognition in the form of numerous awards and accolades, including five GRAMMY nominations in ten years and a GRAMMY Award for Best Opera Recording for our 2014 release of Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s La Descente d’Orphée aux Enfer and La Couronne de Fleurs. BEMF recordings have also been nominated for—and won—ECHO Klassik awards, Gramophone awards, the Diapason d’Or de l’Année, the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and Gramophone Magazine’s Recording of the Month.

The cost of assembling the vast artistic and technical resources to produce one BEMF opera recording is significant. If you would like to help make one of these outstanding recordings possible, please contact Kathleen Fay by email at kathy@bemf.org or by calling 617-661-1812.
