2021 Festival | June 6–13, 2021

For 40 years, the Boston Early Music Festival has been North America’s leading celebration of Early Music, and 2021 was no exception!

Our 21st biennial Festival—themed Music of Solace & Joy—brought our signature opera, concerts, Exhibition, and Fringe Concerts online with a Virtual Festival open to our many devoted fans around the world. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

The Operatic Centerpiece of this Virtual Festival was our first archival video presentation of one of BEMF’s signature, fully staged Baroque opera productions. For this exciting occasion, we selected the dazzling spectacle of our 2017 production of Campra’s Le Carnaval de Venise. Accompanying this enthralling tour-de-force, our GRAMMY-winning BEMF Chamber Opera Series returned with our 2014 production of Pergolesi’s La serva padrona and Livietta e Tracollo.

In addition to the Festival Operas, the 2021 Virtual Festival boasted a series of new, specially filmed and recorded concert programs from some of the world’s leading artists and ensembles. Audiences around the world enjoyed performances from our own all-star BEMF Vocal & Chamber Ensembles, soprano Amanda Forsythe, Doulce Mémoire, ACRONYM, L’Achéron Consort, and others. LEARN MORE »

Since 1981, the heart of the Boston Early Music Festival has been our world-famous Exhibition. This year, instead of the joyful, buzzing cacophony of the Marriott ballrooms, we will make space on our website for virtual booths—a place for you to learn about some of the industry's new and leading instrument builders and service organizations and browse photos and videos of their offerings.
