2021 Festival | June 9–13, 2021
Save the dates for our next biennial Festival—June 9–13, 2021—“Music of Solace and Joy".
“We had originally planned a very different Festival for June of 2021: A Celebration of Women, with a fully staged production of Desmarest’s Circé—the first opera with a female librettist, Louise-Geneviève Gillot de Saintonge—alongside a chamber opera production of Francesca Caccini’s Alcina—the first opera by a female composer,” explains BEMF Executive Director Kathleen Fay. “Current events required us to reconsider the scale of the June 2021 Festival, but we are resolutely unwilling to compromise on the packed weeklong showcase of women in the arts throughout the centuries we had planned. As such, we are moving that event to June 4-11, 2023 and presenting a more intimate Festival week for June 2021 showcasing an all-new production of our own Chamber Opera Series.”
The Boston Early Music Festival will present a double bill of German comic opera—featuring Telemann’s Pimpinone and Hasse’s La Finta Tedesca—as the operatic centerpiece of the 2021 Boston Early Music Festival. LEARN MORE »
The 2021 Festival will feature a special selection of concerts showcasing our own all-star BEMF Vocal and Chamber Ensembles. Watch for more details in the coming the months.
