Queen of Muses: Music of Tallis, Byrd, and Dowland
A full decade—to the day and date!—since performing their North American début at our 2009 Festival, Stile Antico makes a triumphant return to the Festival concert stage. Working without a conductor, these accomplished singers have firmly established themselves as one of the world’s most innovative and decorated vocal ensembles. They present a program from the reign of Elizabeth I, whose court reveled in the skill of great composers like Tallis, Byrd, and Dowland. Explore the way noblemen, diplomats, and even suitors used music to gain favor with the Queen, in some of the finest flattery—and music—ever created in England.
“A magnificent display of the very best kind of polyphonic music.”
