The Three Sopranos: Earthly Delights for Angelic Voices
Long before the Three Tenors became a sensation, 17th-century Rome had the Three Sopranos, or “Le Canterine Romane,” the "Roman singers" Andreana, Leonora, and Caterina Basile, the finest singers of the age who performed sublime vocal trios by the most beloved composers of the time: Luigi Rossi, Domenico Mazzocchi, and Marco Marazzoli. Upon hearing the original Canterine, one observer wrote, “This concert transported me into such ravishment, that I forgot my mortal condition and believed myself to be among the angels!”
Be enraptured yourself as three of the world’s most alluring divas—soprano Amanda Forsythe, recent GRAMMY winner for Telemann's Ino, along with her colleagues Dorothee Mields (soprano) and Cecilia Duarte (mezzo-soprano)—bring to life a legendary trio that, almost exactly four hundred years ago in the Eternal City of Rome, caused heavenly delight among the most distinguished connoisseurs.
